Articulate concrete plans with a start and end date to align your team. • Improve, don't prove: Ask your people to improve on plans and processes, rather than prove that they can meet fixed goals or deadlines. You'll face fewer cut corners and better long-term results. • Connect, don't conform: Flatten hierarchies in your organization and connect with your people to encourage them to contribute to decision-making. Fuera de tiempo mezcla la autoficción, el diario, la autobiografía y una escritura casi teatral para hablarnos de los fracasos de largo aliento, esos que empiezan en la infancia y pasan a formar parte de la maleta emocional hasta que un día se sacan y se tienden al sol. De su observación detenida se deducen dos cosas que siempre sabemos pero que se nos olvidan: que lo personal no es solo nuestro y que el que mira no es un espectador pasivo, sino que determina lo que ve según la posición que decide ocupar. ¿Decidimos ser víctimas o nos responsabilizamos de lo que nos ocurre?

Este libro híbrido se desarrolla en Valencia y en Londres, y en él se cuentan historias de padres e hijos, de canciones pop de los años ochenta, de amistad, de retiros, de precariedades autoimpuestas, de entornos urbanos periféricos, de ensoñaciones, de visitas a cementerios, de romances que mueren antes de nacer y de crisis personales que transitan en paralelo con la crisis del propio país. Fuera de tiempo es asimismo un retrato muy fiel de la subjetividad de quienes hoy están en la treintena y no encuentran su lugar.

Aunque aquí el análisis es fundamentalmente introspectivo, no resulta ensimismado, y apunta a cómo del fracaso se aprende siempre más que del éxito. A través de imágenes enunciadas y descritas con la minuciosidad de un plano corto cinematográfico que se cubre con veladuras para sugerir entornos teñidos de soledad y violencia, Antonio de Paco despliega una escritura singularísima en la que lo más importante son las voces del narrador y de quienes le rodean, voces que dibujan un paisaje en el que no hay fronteras entre lo interno y lo externo (por tanto, entre el tú y el yo) por ser la pretensión de objetividad tan inútil como la mera subjetividad, y la separación, una falacia.
